The favorites continue to lose at the 2024 World Grand Prix. This became clear after world number four Rob Cross and the pre-match favorite and two-time World Grand Prix champion James Wade were eliminated following defeats in their quarterfinals. After the quarterfinals concluded, it’s clear that the 2024 World Grand Prix winner will be either Belgian or English.

Many favorites have fallen along the way, and the heavy favorite is Luke Humphries. The world number one is the only top player who has handled the pressure and advanced to the semifinals. He is joined by Mike De Decker, ranked 36th in the world, Ryan Joyce, ranked 35th, and Dimitri Van den Bergh, ranked 14th. In other words, there is potential for a surprising winner if Humphries doesn’t go all the way.

Mike De Decker has truly hit his top form, as the 28-year-old Belgian won 3-0 against James Wade. You might think it was an easy victory, but it wasn’t. All three sets were decided in the final leg, where De Decker showed great composure. Now a new challenge awaits De Decker, as Dimitri Van den Bergh will be his opponent in the semifinal. Van den Bergh continued to impress by defeating Joe Cullen 3-1. Van den Bergh is considered the favorite in the match against De Decker; in PDC events, he has never lost to De Decker, and the last time they met, Van den Bergh won 6-1.

In the other semifinal, Luke Humphries will face Ryan Joyce. Humphries had no major issues in defeating Jonny Clayton. The world number one enters the weekend as the strong favorite. Ryan Joyce pulled off a surprise by beating Rob Cross in a deciding set on Friday evening. Joyce’s last win against Luke Humphries came over four years ago, and since then, Humphries has won six consecutive matches. All signs point to a seventh straight win for Humphries.

The semifinals will be played as best of 9 sets.
